Every starting number is an illustrative assumption, not a recommended price, wage or profit target. Replace the inputs with your own costs and scope.

Use one business model consistently: a solo booth renter can enter booth rent and their own expenses; a staffed shop should enter shop costs and relevant payroll. Include insurance, utilities, software and other fixed costs in the operating-cost field. Do not count the same pay in both fixed payroll and commission; include associated employer costs in your staffing budget.

The missed-appointment rate applies to booked appointments that produce no service revenue after cancellations, no-shows and replacements. This model assumes no retained cancellation fees or deposits. Processing inputs are effective averages across your payment mix. Keep retail sales and tips outside this service-appointment model.

Completed appointments = bookings × (1 − missed-appointment percentage), rounded down to a whole appointment for this scenario. The required bookings round up to cover the required completed appointments. This is a planning assumption, not a prediction of attendance. The downside subtracts the entered lost bookings, stopping at zero; fixed costs stay unchanged. The last scenario uses all available slots.

Contribution = service ticket − supplies − commission − processing costs. Surplus = completed appointments × contribution − fixed costs including owner-pay target. Results are before income tax and exclude unentered costs, sales tax collected, retail activity, tips, startup costs and payment timing. Zero fixed costs can break even at zero appointments even if further service loses money.

Use the state salon guides above to check shop, practitioner and premises requirements. Confirm insurance and staffing costs with your own providers before replacing the example budget.

Interpret the appointment target

Use a realistic service mix and keep tips and sales tax outside the service ticket. Enter owner compensation once, and distinguish fixed payroll from commission costs. The target only covers the costs you enter; it does not predict demand or determine a locally competitive price.

Square is an option to consider for collecting customer payments. Review its current products, fees and account requirements for your service business.
