Who can get a Oklahoma provisional sales associate license
Most people call it a real estate agent license. In Oklahoma a new agent first gets a provisional sales associate license, which lasts one year and lets you work under a sponsoring broker. After you finish a 45-hour course you move to a regular sales associate license. Opening your own brokerage is a separate broker license.
The Oklahoma Real Estate Commission says you finish an approved 90-hour course, schedule an IdentoGO background check, submit your application, pass the exam and pay your license fee.
Already licensed in another state? The Commission has a separate application for people applying with a license from another state. Read it before you pay for a course.
The steps, in order
- Take the 90-hour prelicense course. Use a school the Commission approves.
- Get your background check. Schedule it online with IdentoGO using the Commission’s service code. It costs $60 and takes about two to three business days.
- Apply to the Commission. Pay the $35 application fee.
- Pass the exam. After your application is approved, Pearson VUE emails you to schedule. Both parts cost $75 together.
- Get your provisional license. Pay the license fee and join a sponsoring broker.
- Finish the 45-hour post-license course before your provisional license ends. If you don’t, you can’t renew it and have to apply again.
Track your deadlines
Your provisional license lasts one year and can’t be renewed. Finish the 45-hour post-license course before it ends, or you start over as a new applicant.

Choose a broker for the provisional year and the next license
Your provisional sales associate license lasts one year and cannot be renewed. Ask prospective sponsoring brokers how they help you complete the 45-hour post-license course while gaining supervised experience.
Request a plan for the first consultation, contract review and closing, plus the name of the person who will answer day-to-day questions. Compare the commission split with mentoring and recurring charges. Book post-license education during onboarding so the move to the sales associate license is planned from the start.
Set up your Oklahoma agent business
Register the business and organize payments
Set up the business side during the provisional-license application. Agree with your sponsoring broker on the entity and permitted commission-payee name, then review the Oklahoma LLC guide. If an LLC fits your plan, ZenBusiness can handle the registration paperwork.
Arrange errors and omissions (E&O) insurance
Put professional liability protection into the first-year operating budget. Get E&O quotes from Simply Business for the services you plan to provide and compare the coverage and deductible with the sponsoring broker’s E&O arrangement. Keep the policy contact in the same place as the office’s transaction procedures.
Keep business records from day one
Track the provisional-license end date and the 45-hour course as a single first-year project. Keep course, license and office expenses separate from client-acquisition spending so you can see what your early commissions actually contribute.
See Oklahoma business registration and tax requirements for the wider registration and tax checklist.
Use the provisional year to build repeatable skills
Choose a small local area with your broker and practice a buyer consultation using actual listings. Ask to shadow an experienced agent through inspection and closing preparation. Turn the questions clients ask into a useful follow-up routine and review that work during your first-year training.
